Superman is a fictional character, a comic book superhero appearing in publications by DC Comics, widely considered to be an American cultural icon.[1][2][3][4] Created by American writer Jerry Siegel and Canadian-born American artist Joe Shuster in 1932 while both were living in Cleveland, Ohio, and sold to Detective Comics, Inc. (later DC Comics) in 1938, the character first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June 1938) and subsequently appeared in various radio serials, television programs, films, newspaper strips, and video games. With the success of his adventures, Superman helped to create the superhero genre and establish its primacy within the American comic book.[1] The character's appearance is distinctive and iconic: a blue, red and yellow costume, complete with cape, with a stylized "S" shield on his chest.[5][6][7] This shield is now typically used across media to symbolize the character.[8] MORE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman

Ever since the Superman character burst upon the scene in 1938 and through the 1980’s, the copyright to the character and all things related thereunto was owned by National Periodical Publications. National Periodical Publications published three monthly titles that featured Superman: Superman Comics, Action Comics, and World’s Finest Comics (the latter featured Superman teamed with Batman). They also owned all rights to the Adventures of Superman as well. At some point in the early 1960’s they allowed the Topps bubble gum company to issue Superman bubble gum cards, based on the TV show. DescriptionWhat I remember most is getting on my bike to ride all the way to downtown Skokie to Ben Franklins with 25 cents burning a hole in my pocket. I wanted to get 5 packs of Superman trading cards. The idea was to collect the whole set. And if I was really lucky, I would buy the last few packs and they would give me the box instead of just throwing it away.Inspired by this memory, I have created this new lamp which is essentially my own reproduction of that original box, with a plex box inside surrounded by a film that has the image of the three top packs of cards giving the box the illusion of being full . . . just as I gazed upon it all those many years ago. Then, with the flick of a switch, the box lights up. It is more of a night light rather than something that will light up an entire room, but still . . . the overall effect is warm and fuzzy and brings back the greatest of memories. I'm so in love with this new concept that I had just two nights ago, I will be making more of these from different boxes and wax wrappers that I can get my hands on. So stay tuned to A World of Good and Creative Pal for more of your favorite old TV shows in Gum Card box lamps. Thanks for checking in on my Etsy Shop. If you have any questions, please start a conversation. I love hearing from the creative world outside the walls of my little home in Illinois.
