RED SONJA COSPLAY

MORE: http://flickrhivemind.net/Tags/redsonja/Interesting

Cosplay (コスプレ kosupure?), short for "costume play",[1] is a type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Characters are often drawn from popular fiction in Japan, but recent trends have included American cartoons and science fiction.[citation needed] Favorite sources include manga, anime, tokusatsu, comic books, graphic novels, video games, hentai and fantasy movies. Any entity from the real or virtual world that lends itself to dramatic interpretation may be taken up as a subject. Inanimate objects are given anthropomorphic forms and it is not unusual to see genders switched, with women playing male roles and vice versa. There is also a subset of cosplay culture centered around sex appeal, with cosplayers specifically choosing characters that are known for their attractiveness and/or revealing (even explicit) costumes.

Cosplayers often interact to create a subculture centred around role play. A broader use of the term cosplay applies to any costumed role play in venues apart from the stage, regardless of the cultural context.

Red Sonja the American Comic book heroine is a red haired warrior barbarian who typically wears a armoured bikini. She has regularly appeared in Marvel and Dynamite comics since the mid-1970s.

Red Sonja is an easy enough costume ... red hair, a chain mesh or otherwise armored bikini, brown boots and a good sword.

Belle Chere

Hand made by me. For all its few pieces, this was a pretty time-consuming outfit to make! I purchased 1000 nickled-plated steel scales, created a faux-suede bikini top and loin-cloth, and hand-sewed 750 of those scales on in a layering pattern. Many hours were spent sewing in front of the TV! It weighs about 5 pounds. Armor was made out of Wonderflex. Boots and gloves made out of same faux-suede.

If you’re a regular reader of Gamma Squad, then you know that there is an impressive number of extraordinary cosplayers out there. That said, I don’t I’ve seen a cosplayer that more closely resembles the character they’re dressed up as than Belle Chere. Whether she is dressed up as Ivy from “SoulCalibur”, She Hulk or Vampirella, Belle Chere’s appearance is shockingly dead on.
