THE LIFE OF ELAINE STEWART Born Elsy Steinberg in Montclair, New Jersey, on May 31, 1929, beautiful starlet Elaine Stewart worked as an usherette, cashier, and model before entering films in 1951. Upon signing with MGM in 1951, the studio began using her in bit parts. She can be seen in Singin' in the Rain and Sky Full of Moon, but soon she moved into bigger roles in The Bad and the Beautiful (1952; with Lana Turner and Gilbert Roland) and Brigadoon (1954; with Van Johnson and Gene Kelly). When her contract with MGM lapsed in 1954, Stewart took a three-year hiatus from films, traveling extensively and exploring other career venues. However, she returned to acting with the release of the 1957 Universal-International film The Tattered Dress with Jeff Chandler. In the early 1960s, she made a couple of films in Italy, including The Seven Revenges (1961; with Ed Fury). Stewart wrapped up her film career with the release of Peccati d'estate in 1962. Afterward, Stewart made a few guest appearances on such television series as Perry MasonBurke's Law before walking away from acting. Following her divorce from actor Bill Carter in 1963, she married game show producer Merrill Heatter in 1964, who along with Bob Quigley produced the original Hollywood Squares from 1966 through 1980. Although marriage and being a mother to two children prevented her from returning to acting, Stewart later appeared on two of Heatter-Quigley's game shows, Gambit and High Rollers before her retirement in the mid 1970s. Sadly, Elaine Stewart passed away after a long illness on June 27, 2011, at the age of 82. She is survived by her husband and children. MORE: http://www.briansdriveintheater.com/elainestewart.html

Original MGM One Sheet Poster (27x41) for the Vincente Minnelli musical fantasy, BRIGADOON (1954) starring Gene Kelly, Van Johnson, Cyd Charisse, and Elaine Stewart. This is the charming story of two Americans, Jeff (Johnson) and Tommy (Kelly), who while on a hunting vacation in Scotland discover a quaint and enchanted village called Brigadoon, which only appears for one day every one hundred years. The original Broadway production opened at the Ziegfeld Theater on March 13, 1947 and ran for 581 performances. Kelly wanted to shoot the film on location in Scotland, but the studio said that would be too expensive; so, Minnelli had to create an 18th century Scottish village on a studio set. It's too bad that Gene Kelly did not get his wish --- this film might have pre-dated the location- shot THE SOUND OF MUSIC as the first film to take musicals outside in a big way. This original one sheet poster is in very fine plus condition.
