BOOK REVIEW

BETTIE PAGE -- QUEEN OF THE NILE

by Jim Silke

There are  only a few artists who can capture the beauty of the female form the way Jim Silke can. And none, in my opinion, who can capture the likeness of Bettie Page the way he can.  Here, in Silke's Queen of the Nile, Bettie comes to life the way we remember her: sexy, cute, impish, impulsive and spunky.  It's all captured in three fun episodes (plus a prologue, three pages of which are presented above), over the course of 94 full color pages.   Plus you get an intro from Frank Cho, another incredible artist.  Here's a brief sample of what Cho has to say about Silke and this book:

"This collection is a light, fast paced, saucy tart of a book that you will actually enjoy. It's a fun story packed with great art, humor, nostalgia, and cheeky shots of Bettie Page in various states of undress."

The book, from Dark Horse Press, usually retails for a mere $12.95.  Given the incredible art and the quality of the reproduction, this is well below it's true value.  -- Bruce David/Swapsale
